How it went
A light, shifty north-to-north-westerly breeze (force 2–3 with gusts in the low teens) made for a good training morning. With the trees around the Poel, the wind came in puffs and holes, so the focus was on reading the dark patches on the water and keeping the boat moving through every tack.
What I practised
- Short-tacking up the narrow end of the lake
- Gybing smoothly in the puffs
- Keeping the jib telltales streaming in the lulls
Learnings
- In shifty, gusty air, ease the main early in the puffs instead of letting the boat heel.
- Look upwind for the next puff before every tack.
